Harrington Court
The Rocks, Sydney
The design was for a mixed-use building including offices, shops and car parking on Harrington Street in the centre of the historic Rocks area of the Sydney waterfront.
The site for the building was secured by the developer through a design-based development tender process.
The site contained four existing 19th century terrace houses which were to be restored and renovated. The design of the adjacent new office building was based upon the amelioration of the civic amenity of the area, the integration of public space into the new building and courtyards, and the maintenance of the historic character of the existing buildings and area in relation to Sydney's subsequent development.
The architectural solution provides functional accommodation for users within a building whose scale, siting, and character supports and enhances the historic character of the area.
